Google researchers deal a major blow to the theory that AI is about to Outsmart Humans

Commentary:

This news item reinforces my position that in order to achieve Common Sense, a new paradigm is needed. This article is an summary of a paper which analyzes LLMs and concludes that they do not generalize well. This means that there is a significant shortcoming which will prevent them from becoming a basis for true intelligence or Common Sense. I have long been convinced that ANNs generally do not conform to any plausible model of human Common Sense, but I did not know that the same applies to LLMs.
